Handheld gadget games
Read the review of the Android smartphone game Avenger. Know how to play this game along with its hand-on review. Know how I found this game and what are the pros and cons of this game along with tips on how to proceed in the game Avenger developed by CWA games.
Pros: "Metroidvania" gameplay style along with great 90's visuals
Cons: Too easy to proceed, poor narrative translation
Avenger has been designed by CWA games by keeping in front the new 2D action gaming style called "Metroidvania". If you are unfamiliar with this term then you should know that this is a new style of gaming made popular by the traditional
games. This is basically a type of gaming where players go all violent, smashing, whipping, slashing and hacking in a large are and find treasures with which they level up in the game. This game idea is not something new, it has been going on from a long time and its success has been proved by time. This mash up style has been adapted by CWA games to make
to take a pie of mobile gaming market with this classic idea. So let's take a look how this game goes.
has nothing in it to take the idea of "Metroidvania" and further but that is perfectly okay with my because the genre is already so fun that there is probably nothing much to add to it. The scenery of Avenger is pretty much the same of
making you remind of that. Leveling up your character and weapons is a little bit too easy for my liking though how much difference it brings to gameplay is not quite visible to me. Though there are some weapons which will enhance your stats and will help you fight off enemies when they are in groups.
There is a lot of action in the game. The combos feel hardcore when they finish off multiple enemies at once. You progress from one room to another quite fast, that can also be attributed to the fact that levels are not too big. There are two buttons on the screen- the virtual thumbstick and the action button which feel very responsive and work efficiently either when you jump or shoot your combos. However this game is not one which you pick up and go on playing for a few days.
The narrative of Avenger is difficult to understand. It is clear that the game narrative was originally designed in some other language and was consequently converted in to English. Also the enemy characters don't change too often so players might find this a big turn off. Moreover those who have already played this genre of gaming before will not find this game any challenging.
Avenger is not a "recommend to all your friends" type of game but does make a decent game to be recommended to an average mobile user looking for an average free action packed game. Though I myself do not like much the "virtual thumbstick" controls system but I found the game interesting to play. It felt nice to play something which reminded me of a Playstation type "Metroidvania" game. Despite the story telling faults the game really shows off the flexibility of mobile gaming.
